JOOUST INSEFOODS COLLABORATES WITH EGERTONS’ CESAAM PROJECT

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, through the African Center of Excellence in Sustainable Use of Insects as Food and Feeds (INSEFOODS), hosted the African Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Agriculture and Agribusiness Management (CESAAM) from Egerton University on the 17THJune 19, 2019. The team led by Prof. George Owuor, Center leader CESAAM acknowledged their partner Virginia Tech University (VT), USA for their commitment and support in the joint teachings and research programs that was extended to JOOUST.

In his opening remarks, Prof Tom Thompson, Associate Dean CALS Global Programs and also Team leader VT who appreciated JOOUST fraternity represented by Prof Francis Angawa, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning Administration and Finance for their warm reception. He confirmed that VT indeed identified the University as a potential partner. “Benchmarking, student exchange programs and capacity building programs are the key mandates as VT as we do with CESAAM”, added Prof Thompson.

“JOOUST through Africa Centre of Excellence in Sustainable use of Insects as Food and Feeds (INSEFOODS) prides itself in having a full faculty and diverse staff who are ready for collaboration in addressing food security in Kenya headed by Prof Reuben Mosi, Dean School of Agriculture”, said Prof Ang’awa who was representing the Vice Chancellor. The university is known for producing Crickets and other Insects manufactured Biscuits in Kenya and globally as a way to address food security, he added.

In attendance was Prof. Benson Estambale, (DVC) Research Innovation and Outreach, Deans and Registers together with the Director INSEFOODS Prof. Dauris Andika.

With partnership together with CESAAM with Viginia Tech University being their key partner, the University is set to address economical and global sustainable research programs that will address food security issues locally and internationally.
